Characters and Worlds Gone

So, first I'll tell you what happened

I made a new character, not modded, and i just made it to try out a map i downloaded. The map was fine, no glitches.
I went to delete the character, and once i did, EVERYTHING dissappeared. Worlds, characters all gone.

I think the reason this happened is because i named the character '.' Just a single dot, thats it.
I did find lots of terraria files in the recycle bin, but none of them were the ones i had when i made the character, just the old...
